The Berlin Marriott Hotel on Potsdamer Platz is undergoing an exciting transformation.

CHRONO BAR im Marriott Berlin

Berlin Marriott Hotel

Aa comprehensive renovation project has been launched for the public areas on the ground floor, including the reception area, the bar, and the popular Midtown Grill restaurant. Inspired by Berlin minimalism and Bauhaus aesthetics, a new ambiance combining urban lifestyle with timeless elegance will be created in stages by the end of the year. The creative vision for the new design comes from Forsite Creative Europe, which has worked closely with Marriott International’s Global Design Team to develop a concept that reinterprets the character of the hotel. The work is expected to be completed by mid-December 2025.

Groundfloor

The redesigned ground floor will become the vibrant center of the hotel with various zones for meeting, relaxation, and culinary enjoyment—including the stylish CHRONOBAR with a separate, quiet retreat, an elegant dining lounge, and a new reception area with a concierge zone. The open-plan design promotes social interaction and creates a welcoming atmosphere for travelers and cosmopolitan guests. High-quality materials such as marble, wood veneers, bronze, and satin-finished black metal characterize the new design, as does a warm, natural color palette in cream, beige, and muted earth tones. Forsite Creative Europe and the Global Design Team at Marriott International developed this concept with great sensitivity and creative vision. Together, they make a strong statement for modern hotel design – underscoring the hotel’s high standards of comfort, aesthetics, and genuine hospitality.

Hansjörg Schneider, General Manager of the Berlin Marriott Hotel, tells Gourmet Report: “This comprehensive renovation project would not have been possible without the trusting partnership and joint commitment of our owners, IMMAGO-RENT AG, and Marriott International. I would like to express my special thanks to both parties for their visionary support and willingness to invest in the future of our hotel. Together, we are creating a place that reflects the spirit of Berlin while setting new standards for urban hotel design.”

CHRONOBAR

At the heart of the new interior design concept is the CHRONOBAR – the new centerpiece of the Berlin Marriott Hotel. The name combines “Chrono,” the Greek word for time, with the classic bar as a meeting place. Inspired by Berlin’s first traffic light, which set the pace of the city at Potsdamer Platz in 1924, the CHRONOBAR builds a stylish bridge between the past and the present. It pays homage to Berlin’s vibrant dynamism and, with its sculptural design, fine materials, and atmospheric lighting, embodies the new spirit of the hotel: cosmopolitan, historically conscious, and future-oriented.

Midtown Grill – The American brasserie

Another highlight of the renovation is the redesign of the Midtown Grill. The restaurant combines the classic American steakhouse with the lively atmosphere of a brasserie. With seating for 189 guests – 36 of them outdoors – the Midtown Grill will offer a culinary meat experience. Known throughout the city for its steaks, the culinary signature remains unchanged, but is complemented by new elements such as an open meat counter. The design echoes Berlin’s minimalist style and creates a stylish, lively ambience with bistro seating, a sharing concept and an open atmosphere. Accents of brushed concrete, dark wood and leather underscore the urban character. The restaurant is currently closed for renovation and is scheduled to reopen in September 2025.

Dining Lounge – Dining in an urban living room

A new dining lounge with a capacity for up to 56 people is being created in the area of the former Smoker’s Lounge, which can be used flexibly depending on the time of day and requirements – for breakfast, business lunch, or a relaxed dinner. In keeping with the hotel’s “urban living” concept, it combines stylish restraint with a feeling of lightness and hospitality – a place for enjoyment and encounters. Subtle lighting, natural materials, and harmonious colors create a cozy atmosphere with cosmopolitan flair.

Quiet Lounge

The Quiet Lounge is designed as a peaceful retreat within the lively ground floor. With space for up to 20 guests, this area invites you to relax – whether between meetings, over a coffee, or simply to take a break. The Quiet Lounge is therefore an ideal place for guests seeking a moment of serenity amid the urban dynamism of Berlin. It is visually shielded by transparent room dividers and creates a relaxed atmosphere with soft textiles, warm colors, and subdued lighting.

Reception & Concierge

In the newly designed reception area, guests will be welcomed with a modern, open concept, expected to be ready in mid-December. As the first point of contact on the ground floor, it combines functionality with a feeling of arrival and well-being. The clean lines and warm color scheme create an inviting atmosphere that underscores the urban character of the hotel. The concierge area is closer to the reception and offers personal services.

A statement for the future

The first renovation work began in April 2025 and will be carried out in several stages. The Midtown Grill is scheduled to reopen in mid-September, while the complete renovation of all public areas – including the reception, CHRONOBAR, Quiet Lounge, and Dining Lounge – is scheduled for mid-December 2025. With the redesign of the ground floor, the Berlin Marriott Hotel is sending a clear signal of innovation and hospitality. At the same time, the comprehensive renovation of the rooms, suites, and conference area, which was already carried out in 2020, is coming to a harmonious conclusion. The successful combination of local design awareness and international flair makes the hotel a place where the past and future merge stylishly.

Berlin Marriott Hotel

The Berlin Marriott Hotel on Potsdamer Platz is a business hotel. In 2020, all 378 rooms and suites as well as the entire conference area underwent extensive renovation. Since then, guests have been welcomed by a cozy atmosphere in a modern interpretation of the Bauhaus style. The 1,600 square meter event area offers eleven flexible event rooms and a spacious foyer in the style of the 1920s and 1930s. The hotel offers its guests steaks & co in the American restaurant Midtown Grill. In the urban diner is The Big Dog offering creative hot dogs and fancy fries. A wellness and fitness area with a pool, an executive lounge on the 10th floor, and the hotel’s own underground car park round off the facilities on offer.
