Between Techno and Dough: A Second Attempt at Rasoterra on Uhlandstraße

Pizzeria Rasoterra

Spread the love

At the corner of Uhlandstraße and Ludwigkirchstraße in Wilmersdorf, a new gastronomic player has been making waves since 2025. Pizzeria Rasoterra in Wilmersdorf lures customers into its former corner-lot premises with the promise of Neapolitan sourdough pizza and a remarkably confident PR campaign. The press is largely in agreement: “Pretty much the best pizza in town.” A visit with family – and a cautious ear for the noise level.

First Impression: Drafts and Techno Beats

The first attempt to settle in at Rasoterra was brief. Very brief. What is marketed as a bright, generous dining space turned out, at 19°C (66°F), to be a drafty passage with a loud techno dance floor soundtrack. That the windows are wide open in this weather may suit some guests. Anyone seeking a quiet, warm atmosphere, however, will initially be disappointed.

Still, the many glowing reviews about the pizza sparked curiosity. A second attempt, this time with the family – and the pragmatic realization that the financial risk is manageable with a fixed price of €15 for one pizza and a drink. Still there is no Kids Pizza available.

On the Plate: Craftsmanship with Minor Quirks

The order is classic: a Margherita for the son, an eggplant pizza for the wife, and a Diavolo with spicy salami – for a €3 supplement – for the author. The wait time of ten minutes is pleasantly short. The son only could finish half.

The pizza is convincing: the crust is crispy, the center very thin but slightly soggy – more to the Neapolitan style. The fact that the salami is not particularly “devilish” but rather mild is a minor point. That the pizza maker stacks the salami in up to three layers creates an unusual bite. Overall: solid craftsmanship, certainly in the top five percent of Berlin’s pizza scene. However, even hours after eating their pizza, you still get terribly thirsty!

The Surroundings: Loud, Stark, and Full of Contradictions

Even on the second visit, the atmosphere remains snack-bar-like. Service is friendly, card payment is mandatory. The restroom leaves an unpleasant odor. The receipt does not list an address – it is Uhlandstraße 155.

Rasoterra is also very creative when it comes to VAT. The reduced tax rate applies exclusively to food. For all beverages—whether alcoholic or non-alcoholic—the standard VAT rate of 19% applies. This also applies to combination offers. For a set menu or buffet that includes food and beverages at a flat rate, a breakdown is required. The tax authorities have issued simplification rules for this purpose. For standard combo offers, a beverage portion of 30% of the total price is considered acceptable—this portion is then subject to 19% VAT, while the food (70%) is subject to 7% VAT. Only a mischievous person would think the worst…

The PR Machine Is Running – and Running Well

The media response is impressive. Nearly every major Berlin outlet has reported on Rasoterra: tip Berlin, the Berliner Zeitung (“A Matter of the Grain”), Gourmet Report, and even Italy’s Reporter Gourmet. Alexander Uhl of the Berliner Morgenpost praises the “top quality.” The strategy of telling the story about the special flour and Sicilian ingredients appears to have succeeded.

Guest feedback, however, is more mixed. While Google rates the pizzeria at 4.5 stars, TripAdvisor gives only 3 stars. Other portals like OpenTable show a higher scores with 4,7 but just 11 voters.

Verdict: Would I Go Back?

Yes. But not right away, and not for a cozy evening. If I’m in the area and looking for a quick, affordable, and well-crafted pizza, Rasoterra is a solid choice. For a quiet night in a relaxed atmosphere, however, it’s the wrong place. The many positive media reports show impressively: good PR can give a restaurant the decisive push – even if the real experience sometimes tells a different story.
