JÓMO in Prenzlauer Berg

Where Parisian Bistro Culture Meets Nordic Precision – Berlin’s diverse gastronomic scene has gained a new destination that defies easy categorization. JÓMO, which opened its doors in late 2024 in Prenzlauer Berg, represents the first collaborative project of Liliia Suk, Roman Berezin, Vitali Müller, and Tim Hansen . The name stands for “Joy of Missing Out” – a deliberate counterpoint to the modern anxiety of FOMO .

A Concept Matured Through Teamwork

Unlike typical restaurant launches that push for immediate full operation, the JÓMO team took nearly two years to develop their concept internally before presenting it to the public.

“Normally, gastronomies start from 0 to 100 – you don’t want to lose time and especially money,” explains co-owner Vitali Müller. “But for us, the team is part of the concept. That’s why we worked intensively to bring the idea to life together with everyone. We succeeded.”

The restaurant occupies the former Seeblick space on Rykestraße, transforming a decades-old bastion of rustic home cooking into a bright, inviting space with wicker furniture, wood accents, carpets, and an open kitchen . The interior retains original architectural elements while incorporating handcrafted ceramics from Paris and carefully selected tableware [citation:original].

A Culinary Bridge Between Cultures

Co-owner Liliia Suk describes the vision: “We didn’t want to be a neighborhood hangout where food plays a secondary role, but also not a fine-dining temple with complicated creations and lots of fuss.” [citation:original] The result is a kitchen that combines Parisian bistro culture with the precision celebrated in Copenhagen, applying technical finesse to high-quality ingredients without pompous presentation.

The menu is distinctly international. Guests can expect Sicilian fish crudo, dry-aged beef ribs with a prune-lacquered sauce, rib-eye on the bone, wild broccoli, grilled cabbage, and pasta with truffles [citation:original]. Japanese influences appear in dishes like okonomiyaki – a cabbage pancake with eel and kimchi aioli – and Udon Cacio e Pepe . The culinary team draws on Ukrainian-German roots alongside Japanese comfort food inspirations .

Brunch and All-Day Dining

On weekends, JÓMO transforms into an all-day dining destination, serving brunch from 10 AM to 4 PM on Saturdays and Sundays . The brunch menu features distinctive options including Croque Monsieur with beef tartare and Gruyère, omelette with shrimp, stracciatella and truffle oil, and the signature okonomiyaki .

Wine Program with Distinctive Approach

The wine list is divided into two sections: JOY for familiar tastes and MORE featuring lesser-known wines from small producers [citation:original]. Almost every wine is available by the glass, and the selection focuses on naturally cultivated wines from producers like Austrian Claus Preisinger and Baden’s Enderle & Moll . The team also offers house-made signature drinks, including an Apple Spritz and Hazelnut Espresso Martini, alongside non-alcoholic options .

A Team with International Experience

The four owners bring diverse backgrounds: Liliia Suk and Roman Berezin are a gastronomy couple originally from Kharkiv, Ukraine, who continue to operate successful restaurants there . Tim Hansen and Vitali Müller contribute their expertise from Berlin’s fine dining and hospitality scene, with Müller having previously worked at 12seasons in Charlottenburg . The team’s experience across France, the United States, and Singapore informs the restaurant’s cross-cultural approach.

Venue Details and Atmosphere

JÓMO offers 56 indoor seats and up to 68 terrace places outdoors [citation:original]. The restaurant is open daily from 10 AM to 11 PM, with dinner service from 6 PM to 11 PM . Private dining and event bookings are available. The vibe is described as “warm and welcoming” and “innovative,” with the restaurant scoring 82 out of 100 from Falstaff’s review .

The restaurant has earned a 4.8-star rating on OpenTable from over 70 reviews . Guests praise the “creative, beautifully presented dishes,” “excellent wine selection,” and “warm, welcoming vibe” . One diner described a pointed cabbage dish as “absolutely fabulous – simple in concept but packed with flavor and executed to perfection” .
