Berlin hosts the fourth edition of the festival with the best pasta restaurants in the capital
Gnocchi al tegamino with guanciale and walnuts in taleggio cheese cream, buckwheat pizzoccheri with dandelion, salted farmer’s ricotta and garden herbs, tagliatelle with yellow tomato cream, stracciatella and lardo di colonnata lasagne with ricotta and truffle, fresh maccheroni al ferretto with salsiccia, potato cream, red onions from Tropea and Pecorino Romano, timbale made of puff pastry with salsiccia, porcini mushrooms, pumpkin, bechamel and herbs from Provence: these are just some of the recipes offered by 32 of the best Italian restaurants in Berlin during the True Italian Pasta Week, an event held for the first time in 2018 to celebrate the importance of Italian cuisine in the world and which this year will take place from 14th to 20th November in the German capital.
From Mozzarella Bar to Trattoria a’ Muntagnola, from DocG to Spaghetteria Pasta Bar, for one week you can choose between two exceptional pasta recipes (each restaurant has its own) at the 32 selected restaurants, along with a drink (Aperol Spritz, wine or soft drink), for only €15. The aim is to encourage the city’s foodies to take a real culinary tour of recipes they’ve never tried before, or places they don’t know but are worth a first visit. The 2021 edition saw over 2,000 dishes sold despite Covid restrictions.
True Italian Pasta Week is not only a feast for the palate, but also for the eyes. Alongside the event, a photo competition is being organised on Instagram with the theme #hungryface. The photo or reels taken around one of the dishes at the event, where hunger is most evident, will be awarded a prize. The prize is a three-night stay for two in Bologna.
What kind of pasta can be tasted during the event? The aim of the event is to celebrate pasta in all its many forms and flavors. From the classic homemade pasta made with eggs and flour – like pappardelle, trenette, lasagne – to more colorful and creative pastas – like pistachio gnocchi, spaghetti alla chitarra with squid or spinach macaroni. Finally, there are many recipes that pay homage to the many culinary traditions of the Bel Paese: Buckwheat pizzoccheri from Valtellina, maccheroni al ferretto from Calabria, canederli from Trentino, cavatelli from Lucania, pumpkin ravioli and amaretti from Mantua. Today, Germany is one of the most important export markets for Italy. Current data show a 20% increase in demand and consumption of pasta in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic. Contributing to this trend has been the ease of preparation of the product and the external setting in which Germany was already a great admirer of genuine Italian cuisine. Please find attached the list of recipes.
True Italian Pasta Week 2022: The map
In order to immediately see where all the venues participating in the event are located, we have created a map based on Berlin’s local transport map, showing all the locations with their addresses and specialities area by area. The map is available both as a downloadable PDF, as Google Maps, and in printed form as a flyer available at participating restaurants.
True Italian Pasta Week: the organisers
True Italian Pasta Week is an initiative of Berlin Italian Communication, organised as part of the True Italian project for Italian Cuisine Week in the World. Partners of the 2022 edition are Aperol, Acqua Panna & S. Pellegrino and the Hotel Art Commercianti in Bologna.
The True Italian project
True Italian is a network founded in 2015 by Berlin Italian Communication, which aims to preserve authentic Italian eateries in Berlin through the brand (registered with the German Patent and Trademark Office and the EUIPO) and a series of initiatives and events throughout the year. True Italians are all those ambassadors of Italian cuisine who demonstrate their daily commitment to spreading good nutrition, right from the choice of ingredients. When we talk about “True Italian”, the focus is not on the nationality of the chef or the owner, but on the approach to cooking. Originality of the recipes and quality of the ingredients: These are the two key words of True Italian restaurants.
