The trade union ver.di has called on the employees of the ground handling service providers at Berlin Brandenburg Airport to take part in an all-day warning strike on Monday, March 10.

Due to the work stoppages, regular flight operations will unfortunately have to be suspended on this day. All scheduled departures and arrivals will be affected by the strikes and therefore cannot take place.

Berlin Brandenburg Airport recommends that affected passengers contact their airline or tour operator to find out about the possibility of rebooking and alternative travel options.

We regret the cancellation of the planned flights on Monday for all affected passengers. Due to the work stoppages, regular flight operations at BER cannot take place on Monday,” commented Aletta von Massenbach, Chairwoman of the Management Board, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH.

Partners of the airport such as the airlines, ground handling service providers, security companies and local businesses have been informed of the suspension of flight operations by the airport company.

Berlin Brandenburg Airport is expected to resume regular and scheduled flight operations on Tuesday, March 11.

Who can passengers contact if their flight is canceled?

The respective airline always decides whether a flight is canceled. Passengers should contact their airline directly if a self-booked flight is canceled. If you have booked a flight as part of a package tour, you should contact the tour operator.

In the event of a strike, the airlines are obliged to offer passengers a replacement flight or alternative transportation, including by train or bus on German domestic routes. Passengers can also withdraw from the contract and have the ticket price refunded.

What rights do travelers have with a package tour?

In the case of package tours, the tour operator is obliged to arrange alternative transportation. They are also responsible for any costs incurred due to a delayed arrival (e.g. meals and accommodation). From a delay of five hours, travelers are also entitled to a price reduction.
