Savoury tiramisù with fresh cheese cream, olives taralli, semi-dried cherry tomatoes, balsamic reduction and basil, spaghetti with potatoes and vongole in lemon sauce, frico with polenta, focaccia with lardo and arugula, salty maritozzo with meatballs in tomato sauce, Venetian cicchetti, crespella, caponata, parmigiana, puccia… These are just a few of the 54 delicious recipes that will be offered during the 72 hrs True Italian Food event from May 22nd to May 25th 2024 in Berlin.

The event takes place simultaneously in 54 different Italian restaurants. For 72 hours (from Wednesday at 5 p.m. until Saturday evening), you can taste an Italian specialty along with a drink (Sarti Spritz or Crodino Spritz as a non-alcoholic option) for only €9 at each venue.

The selection is vast: from typical regional specialties to new creative recipes, there is something for every taste. And that’s not all: 12 of the participating venues are new openings from last year. So, you can discover new interesting Italian restaurants through the event and get an insight into Berlin’s current Italian gastronomic scene. The full list of participating restaurants and their recipes can be found here.

The event is now taking place for the eighth time (in 2023, over 6,000 menus were sold). The aim is to spread the authentic Italian eating culture abroad, focusing not on the nationality of the chef, but on the quality of the ingredients and the authenticity of the recipes.

As every year, there will be a photo contest on Instagram to celebrate the event together with our community. The first prize is a four-night stay for two people in the beautiful Hotel Bacco in Lido di Camaiore, Italy.

How does the event work exactly?

To try one of the 54 specialties, simply visit one of the 54 participating restaurants between May 22nd and May 25th and ask for the special “72 hrs True Italian Food” offer. In addition to the offer, each venue will also offer their usual menu, so you can decide whether to stay or move on to the next True Italian restaurant. All restaurants offer vegetarian options, with many also offering vegan options. The latter are marked on the flyer and online with a plant symbol.

The map

To easily identify all participating restaurants at a glance, we have prepared a map showing the “True Italian” restaurants next to the subway stations. The map is available on Google Maps (and soon also in all participating restaurants as a flyer): https://true-italian.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/72hrs-True-Italian-Food_map.pdf

The True Italian project

“True Italian” is a project that promotes the tradition of authentic Italian cuisine abroad through a series of events. The venues participating in the network can be identified by the “True Italian” sticker on the shop window – during the 72 hrs event as well as throughout the year. Other True Italian events this year include the Italian Street Food Festival on June 8th-9th, the True Italian Pizza Street Festival on July 20th-21st, the Pistachio Street Food Festival on August 17th-18th, the True Italian Pizza Week in October, and the True Italian Pasta Week in November.
