The Ritz-Carlton Berlin at the historic Potsdamer Platz has launched a new seasonal afternoon tea concept. Under the name “A Symphony of the Seasons” , the luxury hotel reinterprets the British tea tradition with a focus on handcrafted pâtisserie and flavors that change with each quarter of the year. The premiere edition is the spring menu titled “Spring Awakening” .

British tea tradition meets seasonal creativity
While classic afternoon teas often remain consistent year-round, Executive Pastry Chef Nikolaos Giannelis has developed a dynamic culinary philosophy. “A Symphony of the Seasons” combines the dramaturgy of the traditional British afternoon tea – with sweet and savory components presented on tiered stands – with the aromas and ingredients of each calendar quarter.
The tea is served daily from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM in The Lounge at the five-star superior hotel. The price is 75 euros per person. A glass of Ruinart champagne can be added for an additional 20 euros.
Spring Edition “Spring Awakening” (until May)
The spring edition, available until May, features light, floral, and fresh aromas. The menu includes:
- Triple chocolate mousse
- Quark cheesecake with honey and poppy seeds
- Lemon-lavender muffins
- Green apple woodruff jelly
- Amaranth sponge cake
These are accompanied by buttermilk scones with chamomile and honey, served with vanilla cream and strawberry jam. On the savory side, classic sandwiches complete the arrangement, including variations with cucumber and arugula (pesto), ham and cheese (mustard mayonnaise), as well as salmon with lemon crème fraîche and onion marmalade.
Curated tea selection by in-house tea sommeliers
A key component of “A Symphony of the Seasons” is the carefully curated tea selection, assembled by the tea sommeliers of The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin. The range includes floral compositions such as Jasmine Silver Needle, semi-dry Sencha, aromatic black teas, and elegant herbal infusions – each designed to nuance the seasonal pastries.
“Afternoon Tea at Home” – takeaway box
For guests wishing to enjoy the experience at home, the hotel offers an afternoon tea takeaway box. It contains selected tea varieties, scones, petit fours, and classic sandwiches. The offer is available by pre-order (at least 24 hours’ notice) for 75 euros per person and can be picked up at the hotel.
Outlook: Summer, Autumn, and Winter editions
Further seasonal editions will follow throughout the year:
- “Summer Moments” (June to August) : Focus on fruity, light aromas. Planned items include black sesame cake with passion fruit crémeux, lime and mint profiteroles, yogurt panna cotta with raspberry, and a strawberry-black pepper millefeuille.
- “Harvest Delight” (September to November) : Warm, nutty, and spicy notes. Creations with caramel, almond, pumpkin, sea buckthorn crémeux, carrot roll cake, and cinnamon brown-butter scones. Savory components include Emmental and olive financier with red pepper crémeux.
- “Winter’s Elegance” (December to February) : Festive aromas and opulent textures. Jasmine-mandarin sphere, lychee-champagne mousse, nut cake with milk chocolate chantilly, saffron-raisin scones, and savory pâté à choux with Gruyère crème and bergamot truffle oil.
