Street food from all over the world and show cooking with pistachio recipes will characterize the fourth edition of this exciting event
Arepas with mortadella and pistachios, ceviche with pistachio granola, pistachio eclair, baklava, churros with pistachio cream, bao burger with chicken and pistachios, pasta and gnocchi with pistachio pesto, pistachio crepe and cheesecake, tacos with pistachio guacamole, cannoli and pistachio ice cream… These and many other specialities from cuisines all over the world can be tasted at the Pistachio Street Food Festival, on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 August 2024 from 12 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Jules B-Part in Gleisdreieck Park.
The festival, coming to its fourth edition, counted more than 6,000 visitors in 2023. The aim of True Italian is to celebrate the beloved ‘green gold’ used in kitchens all over the world through the best Italian and international street food specialities.
Entry fee is €4, and is free for children under 16 and anyone totally dressed in green.
The event
It will be an extraordinary journey through the cuisines and cultures of different countries: the Pistachio Street Food Festival aims to enhance not only Italian cuisine, but also international cuisine. Pistachio is an ingredient that lends itself to being incredibly versatile in the kitchen, allowing one to create new dishes and experiment with different textures and flavors. The participating stands come from Italy, France, Spain, Mexico, Turkey, China, Peru and Venezuela. Among the recipes on offer are both classic pistachio recipes and dishes created especially for the event and which can therefore only be tasted at this Festival.
This year, enjoy live cooking shows and demonstrations featuring pistachio recipes by some of the exhibitors.
Pistachio Consumption Worldwide
In recent years, pistachio consumption has risen sharply in Germany and worldwide. In Germany, annual pistachio consumption has reached around 10,000 tonnes. Globally, consumption has increased from about 500,000 tonnes in 2016 to more than 800,000 tonnes in 2022. This increase is attributed to growing awareness of the health benefits of pistachios, which are rich in protein, fiber and antioxidants. Major producers such as the United States, Iran and Turkey are experiencing rising demand, with trends indicating a growing interest in organic and environmentally friendly products.
Organizers and Partners
The Pistachio Street Food Festival is organized by Berlin Italian Communication, the communication agency that includes the brand True Italian and the online Berlin Magazine. The event is supported by Viani and Pinù.
Viani has two grocery stores in Berlin. In Schöneberg and right in the middle of Prenzlauer Berg, Viani Alimentari offers a wide selection of Italian and Mediterranean foods such as olive oil, wine, pasta, and antipasti. Occasionally, you might even meet the producers of the diverse products who present their goods in person. Good taste and a sense of enjoyment are important concerns for Viani, turning everyday life into a small celebration. In the deli cafés of both stores, you can enjoy fresh cuisine all day long, from crispy focaccia to soups and salads, or you can put together an aperitif plate. And for those who want to cook themselves, Viani also offers cooking classes here, which convey the diversity of Italian regional cuisines from the north to the south of the country and the large islands. |
At the festival, Viani will offer visitors a welcome gift: a €5 voucher and a pistachio praline.
Pinù is a Berlin-based start-up founded by Sara and Marvin. With Pinù they realized a heart’s desire: a pistachio drink as an alternative to milk. During a trip to Italy in late summer 2021, they discovered many pistachio products, but wondered why a pistachio milk did not yet exist. After much research, they developed Pinù: a vegan alternative to milk, with a nutty and slightly sweet flavor. However, it is low in calories and contains no additional oils. The unsaturated fatty acids it contains regulate cholesterol levels and also make it perfect for frothing. Thus, you can enjoy Pinù’s milk alternative perfectly with coffee, for instance as a cappuccino or with any other hot or cold beverage. |
At the Jules B-Part café during the Pistachio Street Food Festival all drinks will be offered also with Pinù as a vegan milk alternative at the same price.
